Torin Ellis

He/Him

"I'm unapologetic with regard to diversity and inclusion efforts. I want everyone to be under the big tent. For in doing so, we are chasing humanity in a way that is beautiful, necessary, nuanced, perhaps messy, but vital."

Resilience

There are several to include music therapy, spiritual devotion, and tapping my trusted circle of friends. A formula that I amplify is (P-I=R) potential minus interference equals results. It stands as a reminder that if a situation are within my acumen, expertise, or physical composition, that a solution is often accessible when I focus and block out the noise. Regarding others, I look for ways to raise the soothing sound of their internal voice - a voice they are most familiar with and should trust. Operative word: should.

Purpose-Driven

Back in 2006, I launched Method 1518 - Connecting Teens and Technology. Given what I was witnessing as Recruiter, it was urgent that I did something to better position high school students for their next step. I knew not all would goto college but that technology would play an outsized role in their personal and professional lives. We hosted events, secured internships, and challenged career centers at HBCUs to do more with regard to technology. It meant everything then and even more now.

Developmental Leadership

Ageism is real. I spend time in conversation and/or sessions with professionals reaching the end of their corporate careers. Professionals that feel left behind and are not ready to quit working. The assignment is to find ways to introduce them to new ways of packaging their knowledge, network and processes. Once done, exploring ways to leverage their accomplishment and experiences in ways that bring fulfillment, position others for action, and continues to generate income beyond their days in the corporate corridor.

Intersectionality

I'm unapologetic with regard to diversity and inclusion efforts. I want everyone to be under the big tent. For in doing so, we are chasing humanity in a way that is beautiful, necessary, nuanced, perhaps messy, but vital. That said, I struggle with transgender women competing in sports against those that have always identified as women. This has been one of the hardest aspects of inclusion work I've discussed/encountered in my 15 years in the space.

Future Facing Legacy

That I challenged many to wrestle with what it means to be HUMAN. It is unfathomable that some of the conversations, concerns, omissions, restrictions and more are still being echoed or repeated in 2025. When I'm done, I want my grand and great grand children's generation to read an article, listen to a recording, watch a video and say - he was concerned about it being better for us. That is my hope.
