"I have committed my life work to living beyond the boundaries that society, people, and the world place on me to create ecosystems of value and excellence for others and myself through collaboration and independent points of engagement."

Resilience
Resilience in Life: My personal reset button is taking quiet time to be still and recentering through reading, praying, taking in the beauty of nature and gleaning wisdom in the presence of trustworthy mentors, friends, and family members. During those times, I find restoration, strategy and motivation to move forward purposefully. Generally, I reflect over my intentions, my actions, and my thoughts in challenging situations and the contributions of all members on my team. During my reflection, I analyze my engagement and consider ways for moving forward with intentionality. Questions I often ponder are how I addressed the attack, confrontation, or opportunity to create clarity to mixed realities and schemes to create harmony and purpose; how did I or could I walk through the experiences with focus, strength, and courage. It’s important to me to the treat the person or colleague I’m leading during conflict or opportunity with respect and dignity, to be honest with the person, to provide opportunities for growth, for change, and for a self-motivated display of leadership to arise and manifest itself.
Purpose-Driven
Purpose-Driven Living: No matter what life may send my way, as an educated, single African American woman, I have committed my life work to living beyond the boundaries that society, people, and the world place on me to create ecosystems of value and excellence for others and myself through collaboration and independent points of engagement. I intentionally bring my authentic self and perspective to every space as a representative of a valued and honest individual even when the culture may or may not welcome, acknowledge, or support me. In doing this, I create space and place for myself and others who will also be confronted with similar challenges and educate others on how to reflect on their ways of being and how they decide to embrace diversity in thought and the inclusion of different leaders into the ecosystem.
Developmental Leadership
Developmental Leadership: Developmental leadership requires you to have a life-long learning mindset, to be vulnerable, to be flexible, and to open to learning from others and sharing your experiences of success, failure and growth to build capacity and awareness of members on your team. I approach the development of members on my team by demonstrating my devotion to continuous learning, inspiring others to take on new projects, creating opportunities for members to display their expertise to others, allowing members of the team to chart out opportunities that align with their specific role and a stretch goal to cultivate their passion as a leader. In doing this, I am building foundations to leading people and the organization to unchartered dimensions of value and impact by providing collaborative and independent leadership experiences for members on my team.
Intersectionality
Intersectionality: It’s hard to identify two But, I will note my rural upbringing as the youngest of ten siblings in a working-class family/community growing up quickly, my adult life experiences as a first-generation college student navigating new terrains, and my lived experiences in urban, rural and international areas as an educator brokering low self-fulfilling prophecies in my community of practice has often created tension in my life that require thoughtful engagement and fortitude. My upbringing has shaped my leadership philosophy in a unique way. The values and work ethic instilled by my parents and my life experiences has led me to be a committed individual who preserves amid lack, dysfunction, and obstacles with a belief that greater is achievable even where gaps and inequities exist. It often guides what I support, how I serve, how I lead and how I partner to invest in children and adults with an equity lens; what I create for formal and informal learning communities; and how I connect learners and adults from all backgrounds to learn together and break silos of separation in our world. It has also informed how I engage and disengage in the professional community to learn new information, take risks, and educate my peers on how to invest their time, talent and energy to build capacity in areas of need for transformation.
Future Facing Legacy
Future-Facing Legacy: I hope others will see the light of God in me, know that the good they experience through my efforts are mere gifts from God unfolding in their presence, and be empowered to do even more in their life for others. I want my zeal and love for innovation and authentic impact in the lives of children, adults, schools, and the world to have a lasting impact. I desire for others to understand and replicate my commitment to providing access to science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and computer science education for all through collaboratively empowering and supporting others to reach their life-long dreams with dignity, respect, power, and autonomy.
